Job summary

A123 Systems LLC in Novi, Michigan is seeking a Field Quality & Warranty Engineer to support warranty activities and ensure quality, reliability, and performance of Energy Storage Systems deployed across the United States.

The role focuses on ESS container systems, serving as the primary customer quality representative for field service operations, warranty investigations, and service-provider oversight. Extensive domestic travel (40–60%) is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years in high-voltage electrical products.
• Experience with warranty investigations and field quality.
• Experience leading or supporting service organizations.
• Knowledge of lithium-ion battery systems and high-voltage products.
• Ability to read electrical/mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Experience with quality tools like 8D, 5-Why, PFMEA.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead warranty investigations for deployed ESS container systems.
• Primary contact for warranty & quality inquiries.
• Review field failures and determine root cause using structured problem-solving methods (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, DFMEA, PFMEA).
• Coordinate containment, corrective and preventive actions with cross-functional teams.
• Manage RMA activities and field failure documentation.
• Analyze warranty trends and field quality metrics to identify recurring issues.
• Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to management and customers.
• Support warranty cost reduction through robust root cause analysis.
