Job summary

Florida Department of Transportation in Gainesville seeks an inspector/technician to analyze plans and monitor right-of-way work to ensure compliance with FDOT standards. You will perform testing, document results, and assist consultants and contractors in payments and approvals.

The role emphasizes safe work zones, plan reviews for constructability, and data entry for MMS/RCI systems. A Class E license and related certifications are required within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license; 12 months of infrastructure design, construction, or maintenance experience.
• Must complete specified self-study courses within 11 months of appointment and obtain Advanced Temporary Traffic Control and Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector certifications within one year.
• Valid Class E driver license with acceptable driving record; may work around inmates; may require night/weekend work; emergency response readiness.

Responsibilities

• Analyze complex plans and perform independent complex technical assignments for inspection and monitoring of ROW work.
• Verify work conforms to State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, and rules.
• Perform approved testing techniques using hand tools, gauges and instruments to ensure materials meet FDOT requirements.
• Provide information to consulting engineers, developers, architects, and permit applicants; prepare documents for payments to contractors.
• Review Maintenance of Traffic device usage, ensure safe work zones, and address deficiencies.
• Conduct/attend pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and coordinate with contractors/utility owners; issue and prepare work documents.
