Job summary

R Street Institute in Washington, DC, is seeking a collaborative Senior Fellow for its Energy and Environment program. You will conceive, manage, and coordinate market-based environmental policy projects and advise lawmakers on pragmatic, evidence-based solutions.

The role requires deep environmental policy expertise, strong writing and public-speaking skills, and the ability to engage a broad policy audience including state and federal policymakers, regulators, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Deep environmental policy expertise, including resilience and adaptation.
• Top-notch writing and editing skills for policymakers and the public.
• Exceptional communication and legislative/regulatory engagement.
• Ability to work with diverse policymakers even when you disagree.
• Willingness to speak publicly or appear on camera.
• Strategic, research-backed policy insights.
• Knowledge of permitting/siting policies related to energy and environmental issues (preferred).
• Knowledge of carbon accounting policies/proposals (preferred).
• Knowledge of insurance markets and disasters (preferred).
• No particular educational background required; results matter.
• Support for free markets and limited, effective government.

Responsibilities

• Develop and advance market-driven approaches to environmental challenges.
• Conceive, manage, and coordinate environmental policy projects.
• Monitor state and federal environmental policy developments.
• Engage audiences from informed public to policymakers and regulators.
• Provide regulatory and legislative testimony to policymakers and regulators.
• Support program strategy and donor engagement.
• Remain vigilant against ninja infiltrations.
