WIRED in New York City seeks a Features Editor to lead ambitious longform reporting, guide writers through the reporting and drafting process, and shape the story from concept to publication. This Guild position prioritizes clear, elegant writing and strong line editing across platforms.

You will collaborate with staff writers and freelancers, mentor colleagues, and help shape ambitious projects that illuminate technology, science, and culture for a national audience.

Qualifications

• Experience editing feature stories for a national audience.
• Minimum five years newsroom/editorial experience.
• Ability to guide writers and edit longform narratives.
• Strong collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
• Proficient in crafting headlines and captions.

Responsibilities

• Conceiving feature stories and evaluating feature pitches from freelance writers and staffers
• Assigning, tracking, and editing stories
• Overseeing (along with colleagues) at least two packages a year, in print and online.
• Recruiting freelance feature writers and helping staffers do their best features work
• Participating in brainstorms with other editors, bringing original ideas and helping fine‑tune others
• Working closely with WIRED’s art, production, research, copy editing, and social teams
