Placements24 seeks a Senior Farm Manager to oversee a large diversified farm near Randburg, Gauteng. This hybrid role combines hands-on leadership with strategic planning across crops and livestock.

You will plan operations, manage teams, optimize resources, and ensure safety, environmental compliance, and profitability. Strong experience in mixed farming and team leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in farm management, with a strong background in mixed agriculture (crops and livestock).
• Proven experience in managing diverse teams of farm workers.
• Comprehensive knowledge of crop production techniques and livestock management principles.
• Experience with farm machinery, irrigation systems, and basic maintenance.
• Strong understanding of financial management and budgeting for agricultural operations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing field responsibilities with administrative tasks.
• Familiarity with South African agricultural practices and regulations.
• Valid driver's license is essential.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of mixed-farm operations, including crop production and livestock management.
• Develop and implement annual farm plans, including crop rotation, planting schedules, and livestock breeding programs.
• Manage farm staff, providing training, guidance, and performance supervision.
• Ensure efficient use of resources, including water, fertilizers, pesticides, and feed.
• Monitor crop health and yields, implementing appropriate management strategies to maximize productivity.
• Manage livestock health, welfare and productivity, coordinating with veterinary services as needed.
• Oversee the maintenance and operation of farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
• Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental policies on the farm.
• Manage farm budgets, track expenses and contribute to financial planning.
• Maintain detailed farm records and prepare regular reports on operations and performance.
• Stay updated on agricultural best practices and technologies, and market trends, liaise with suppliers, buyers, and other external stakeholders.
