Job summary

Duke University is seeking a General Maintenance Mechanic (GMM) IV to maintain the university’s facilities supporting education, healthcare, research, and innovation. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose issues, and collaborate with trades personnel to ensure safe, reliable environments for students, staff, patients, and visitors.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, NC driver’s license, and completion of Duke Wheels of Learning Curriculum Level 6.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in skilled crafts or trades preferred.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Required training in OSHA standards, portable fire extinguisher use, hazardous waste awareness, lockout/tagout, fire safety, fall protection, blueprint reading.
• Successful completion of Duke Wheels of Learning Curriculum, GMM Level 6 testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on building systems and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, painting, glazing, and building components.
• Complete assigned maintenance tasks while ensuring safety standards and procedures.
• Assist higher-level mechanics and trades personnel with maintenance and repair projects.
