Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an experienced Facilities Mechanical Design Engineer III to lead mechanical design across complex facility projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression.

You will collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, and process engineering teams to deliver facilities supporting space access goals, with EOR responsibilities and construction administration duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Active PE license in at least one U.S. state required.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive facilities mechanical engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience in the design and construction of HVAC systems and associated distribution systems.
• Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, or equivalent.
• Experience managing projects through full design and construction lifecycle.
• Working knowledge of IMC, IPC, ASHRAE 90.1, NFPA codes.
• Strong technical writing skills and ability to work on-site in construction environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of new facility construction and renovation projects (HVAC, plumbing, compressed air, fire suppression).
• Develop and review drawings, specifications, calculations, and design packages for compliance with codes and project requirements.
• Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) on mechanical system designs and stamp drawings as required.
• Manage relationships with external engineering consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and condition evaluations of mechanical infrastructure.
• Provide construction administration support (RFI responses, submittal reviews, site visits).
• Develop and maintain facility mechanical design standards and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes (IBC, IMC, IPC, ASHRAE, NFPA).
• Support commissioning and startup activities for new systems; drive energy efficiency improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with operations and maintenance teams.
