Job summary

JE Dunn Construction seeks a Senior Fabricator to produce precision components and craft jigs and fixtures for repeatable parts. You will design and run automated and manual equipment, reading drawings to ensure accurate fabrication across multiple project types.

The role emphasizes leadership of a small production team, application of basic trig in layout, and maintaining safe, clean shop operations in a dynamic construction environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required, apprenticeship/training preferred.
• 5+ years of commercial construction, manufacturing, or fabrication shop experience.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in facility with varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of automated and manual shop equipment to produce parts per cut list.
• Read and interpret shop drawings and construction drawings.
• Design, build, and set up jigs and fixtures for repeatable parts.
• Program automated equipment for complex parts and lead small production tasks.
• Maintain clean work areas and ensure safe operations.

Role Summary

The Senior Fabricator will produce components for multiple construction project types, including high level precision components and for multiple construction project types. The Senior Fabricator will design and build jigs and fixtures to create repeatable parts. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

PREFABRICATION FAMILY – CORE

• Operates a variety of automated equipment, uses cut list to produce specific sized material.
• Operates manual shop equipment; uses cut list to make repeatable parts.
• Applies basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to production activities, such as cutting parts to size or putting multiple parts together in an assembly.
• Collects multiple components cut to specific sizes and assembles together for an end product.
• Packages and loads cut materials and assemblies for transport to project sites.
• Responsible for accurately reading and understanding a tape measure.
• Responsible for cleaning up the shop, shop equipment, and common areas.

Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core

SENIOR FABRICATOR

In addition, this position will be responsible for:

• Sets up both automated and manual shop equipment for new operations.
• Sets up jigs and fixtures to produce repeatable parts.
• Uses measuring and marking devices to lay out parts and pieces for fabrication.
• Responsible for reading and understanding shop drawings, construction drawings, and other drawings applicable to production activities.
• Designs and builds jigs and fixtures to produce repeatable parts.
• Programs automated equipment that will be used to produce complex repeatable parts.
• Applies basic trigonometry to production activities, such as the ability to determine an angle from given measurements.
• Directs and leads tasks for a small production team.

• Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner

• Ability to identify common construction materials and shop equipment
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
• Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training (Preferred)
• In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

• 5+ years commercial construction, manufacturing, or fabrication shop experience (Preferred)
• Must be able to lift at least to 50 pounds
• May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold)
• Maintenance facility environment, may be exposed to varying temperatures, moving equipment, noise and exhaust fumes
• Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet business needs
• May require working overtime as needed
• Must have reliable transportation
• May require use of respirator
• Must be comfortable working at projected heights and narrow workspace
• Specific environmental and physical requirements may vary by task
• Frequent activity: Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Kneeling, Carrying, Swinging, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling, Balancing
