Job description

Role Summary

The Senior Fabricator will produce components for multiple construction project types, including high‑level precision components. This role will also design and build jigs and fixtures to create repeatable parts and lead small teams conducting similar tasks. All activities will support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.

Key Responsibilities – Core

• Operates a variety of manual and automated equipment to produce metal or wood components.
• Uses basic math to size and assemble parts.
• Collects components cut to specific sizes and assembles the end product.
• Packs and loads cut materials and assemblies for transport to project sites as needed.
• Accurately reads and understands tape measures.
• Maintains shop cleanliness and equipment condition.
• Uses tablet computers and related software to communicate tasks and report progress.
• Completes equipment setup on manual and automated shop equipment without assistance.
• Sets up jigs and fixtures for repeatable parts.
• Completes tooling changes and preventive maintenance on automated equipment without assistance.
• Uses precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to check material, parts, and tooling to the thousandth of an inch.
• Accurately checks delivered materials against paperwork and reports variances.
• Uses measuring and marking devices to lay out parts and pieces for fabrication.
• Reads and understands shop drawings, fabrication drawings, construction drawings, and other relevant drawings.

Key Responsibilities – Additional

• Troubleshoots equipment with assistance from internal team members and external partners.
• Trains and mentors other team members within area of experience.
• Programs specified machines on the production floor, revising programs to correct errors as needed.
• Provides feedback on fabrication processes and drawings.
• Fits a multitude of parts or assemblies to produce a high‑quality component that meets strict tolerance requirements.
• Selects the best raw material for an application from a larger quantity of material.
• Program complex automated equipment that will be used to produce repeatable parts utilizing extensive equipment training.
• Applies basic trigonometry to determine angles from given measurements.
• Reviews assigned tasks and collaborates with leadership to implement tasks requiring substantial planning and forethought.
• Creates jigs and fixtures to increase fabrication efficiency.
• Directs and leads a small production team consisting of themselves and up to three other team members.
• Troubleshoots equipment and collaborates with internal team members and external partners to develop solutions and propose changes that eliminate future issues.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (Preferred).
• Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training (Preferred).
• In lieu of the above, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

• 5+ years of commercial construction, manufacturing, or fabrication shop experience (Preferred).

Working Environment

• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
• May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
• Maintenance facility environment: varying temperatures, moving equipment, noise, and exhaust fumes.
• Willing to work non‑traditional hours to meet business needs.
• Might require overtime as needed.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Might require use of respirator.
• Comfortable working at projected heights and narrow workspace.
• Frequent activities: standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, carrying, swinging, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling, balancing.
• Occasional activities: sitting, viewing computer screen.
