Job summary

JE Dunn Construction seeks a Senior Fabricator to produce components for multiple construction project types. The role involves designing and building jigs and fixtures to create repeatable parts, and working to support the company’s vision and values.

The position requires experience with automated and manual shop equipment, understanding shop drawings, and the ability to lead a small production team. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, with additional trade training beneficial.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate automated equipment to produce specified parts from cut lists.
  • Operate manual shop equipment to create repeatable parts.
  • Apply basic math to production tasks and assembly.
  • Assemble components into end products from measured parts.
  • Package and load cut materials for transport to sites.
  • Read and interpret a tape measure accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
  • Set up both automated and manual equipment for new operations.
  • Design and build jigs and fixtures to produce repeatable parts.
  • Read shop drawings and construction drawings for production.
  • Program automated equipment for complex parts.
  • Apply basic trig to determine angles as needed.
  • Direct and lead tasks for a small production team.

Job description

Role Summary

The Senior Fabricator will produce components for multiple construction project types, including high level precision components and for multiple construction project types. The Senior Fabricator will design and build jigs and fixtures to create repeatable parts. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities – Core
  • Operates a variety of automated equipment, uses cut list to produce specific sized material.
  • Operates manual shop equipment; uses cut list to make repeatable parts.
  • Applies basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to production activities, such as cutting parts to size or putting multiple parts together in an assembly.
  • Collects multiple components cut to specific sizes and assembles them for an end product.
  • Packages and loads cut materials and assemblies for transport to project sites.
  • Responsible for accurately reading and understanding a tape measure.
  • Responsible for cleaning up the shop, shop equipment, and common areas.
Key Role Responsibilities – Additional Core
  • Sets up both automated and manual shop equipment for new operations.
  • Sets up jigs and fixtures to produce repeatable parts.
  • Uses measuring and marking devices to lay out parts and pieces for fabrication.
  • Responsible for reading and understanding shop drawings, construction drawings, and other drawings applicable to production activities.
  • Designs and builds jigs and fixtures to produce repeatable parts.
  • Programs automated equipment that will be used to produce complex repeatable parts.
  • Applies basic trigonometry to production activities, such as the ability to determine an angle from given measurements.
  • Directs and leads tasks for a small production team.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to follow up on inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Ability to identify common construction materials and shop equipment.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
  • Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training (Preferred)
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
  • 5+ years commercial construction, manufacturing, or fabrication shop experience (Preferred).
Working Environment
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
  • Maintenance facility environment, may be exposed to varying temperatures, moving equipment, noise and exhaust fumes.
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet business needs.
  • May require working overtime as needed.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • May require use of respirator.
  • Must be comfortable working at projected heights and narrow workspace.
  • Specific environmental and physical requirements may vary by task.
  • Frequent activity: Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Kneeling, Carrying, Swinging, Reaching above shoulder, Pushing, Pulling, Balancing.
  • Occasional activity: Sitting, Viewing computer screen.
