Job description

Join to apply for the Senior Expatriate Benefits Consultant role at Mercer.

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Expatriate Benefits team at Mercer. This role will be based in one of our major cities in the US. It is a hybrid position, requiring at least three days a week in the office.

As part of our expanding Center of Excellence, you will serve as a subject matter expert on expatriate benefits programs. Your responsibilities include managing expatriate medical, dental, life, and disability plans, overseeing annual renewals, conducting competitive marketing, and handling ad hoc projects for large multinational employers. You will collaborate with colleagues in both domestic and international teams to support clients with globally mobile populations through comprehensive solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Review client needs, recommend strategies, and implement expat benefit programs.
  2. Manage client activities and coordinate work with team members.
  3. Build and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.
  4. Review and analyze renewals and marketing exercises.
  5. Ensure fair and sustainable program renewals.
  6. Coordinate Requests for Proposal for clients.
  7. Present marketing results and renewals to clients.
  8. Manage day-to-day client interactions and guide junior staff.
  9. Communicate industry trends and market insights to clients.
  10. Stay informed about the expat insurance marketplace and compliance landscape.
  11. Review vendor contracts to ensure alignment with client expectations.
  12. Delegate and coach junior staff, reviewing their work.
  13. Develop a reputation as a trusted expat advisor.
  14. Collaborate across lines of business and geographies for holistic client support.
  15. Participate in new business development and knowledge sharing initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience in employee health benefits programs (US or global).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with expatriate benefits programs, working with carriers, consulting, or multinational employers.
  • Strong client engagement skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to synthesize information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong business acumen.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current Life and Health insurance license.
  • Understanding of challenges faced by expatriate populations.
  • Experience with underwriting or financial mechanisms.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, macros).
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
