Senior Estimator — Underground Utilities

Job summary

Premier Underground Construction is seeking an experienced Estimator for the Avondale, AZ office to handle pre-construction estimates for underground dry utilities. You will review client requests, prepare takeoffs, and coordinate with Chief Estimator throughout the quote process.

The role requires reading blueprints, cost analysis, and producing accurate estimates while maintaining profitability. Collaboration with project teams and timely updates in Premier’s data system are essential.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience specifically in underground dry utilities for electrical & communication construction estimating.
• Must have experience reading blueprints.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in underground dry utilities and the electrical industry.
• Communicate professionally with people outside the company, representing the company to customers, the public, the government, general contractor and electrical contractors’ representatives.
• Must possess experience working with contract documents such as contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addendums, specifications and change orders.
• Interact with customers in all matters regarding RFI’s, RFQ’s and proposals.
• Demonstrate the initiative to search out the most reasonable cost for the company and maintain the profitability margin.
• Possess solid organizational and management skills.
• Intermediate skill level with MS Word / PowerPoint / Outlook and Publisher.
• Advanced skill level with MS Excel.

Responsibilities

• Receive a quote request from a client and notify Chief Estimator.
• Estimator updates the status and assigned Estimator’s name in Premier’s data system.
• Estimator emails client to inform of the assignment request.
• Estimator updates Premier’s data system upon completion including takeoff sheet, job breakdown, job prints, and addendums.
• Estimator maintains all documented communication for the job and notes reasons for any lost jobs.
• Project award: inform Pre-Construction Manager when ready to send to Operations.
• Project hand-off: participate in job hand-off to Operations with project details.
• Weekly follow-ups with notes on job status and forecast potential start dates.
