Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an experienced estimator to support design/build, engineering and construction management efforts. You will prepare and analyze estimates, develop scope with subcontractors, and perform quantity take-offs across multiple trades.

The role requires strong budgeting, cost-control and communication skills, plus ability to work with estimating software and guide junior staff. Travel of 20-40% is expected across domestic/international projects.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control.
• Reads drawings and specifications and identifies missing elements during design development.
• Ability to perform conceptual estimates in multiple trades and review estimates in many trades.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares design/build, engineer, construction management, GMP, and hard-bid estimates/proposals.
• Analyzes quotations prior to and on bid day.
• Evaluates bids of sub-contractors and suppliers for scope, delivery time, and compliance with specs.
• Enters quantity take-offs and material unit pricing for projects.
• Recognizes and applies appropriate WBS structure.
• Prepares opinions of probable construction cost estimates for applicable discipline.
• Develops subcontractor and vendor scopes and reviews for completeness.
• Coordinates overall corporate estimating functions with team.
• Contacts subcontractors and suppliers for outsource pricing.
• Guides junior staff in estimating procedures and software.
• Manages bid day and close-out activities.
