Job summary

The Redland Company, Inc. seeks an experienced Estimator to join our preconstruction team in Florida. The role focuses on takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid development for earthwork, grading, utilities, and related construction, with emphasis on accuracy and deadlines.

You will read plans and specs, coordinate with vendors, prepare formal bid documents, and apply cost controls to add work to the company backlog while maintaining client relationships.

Qualifications

• Good working knowledge of FL market and related soils conditions and earthwork/grading + utilities construction means and methods.
• Crew resourced/production based cost estimating experience required.
• Strong desire and ability to complete accurate estimates, meet deadlines, work well with clients and add work to backlog.

Responsibilities

• Good communication with staff and vendors.
• Read and understand plans, specifications and other bid documents.
• Assign quantity survey (takeoff) needs to Assistant Estimator; review related reports for accuracy.
• If Assistant Estimator unavailable, perform all takeoffs, cost estimating, compare supplier & subcontractor costs, apply OH&P fees.
• Conduct cost comparisons.
• Document calculations, assumptions, etc.
• Draft and finalize detailed proposals for clients, including scope explanations, clarifications, exclusions, and qualifications.
• Prepare formal bid documents and submittals.
• Maintain ability to generate accurate estimates, meet deadlines, work with clients, and grow backlog; maintain confidentiality.
• Familiarize with software programs used in Preconstruction.
• Local travel including site visits and meetings; possible occasional out of town travel.
• Organize and distribute bid documents to vendors as needed.
• Receive, organize, and review vendor quotes; bid document handling.
• Other duties as required.
• Compliance with Company Policies, Procedures & Safety Program.
