Job summary

Big-D Self-Perform is seeking a Senior Estimator to join the preconstruction team in Tempe or Salt Lake City. You will develop accurate, organized estimates for concrete scopes and support the preconstruction process.

The ideal candidate has a 5+ year estimating background in construction, proficiency with Timberline and OST, and solid communication skills. This role emphasizes collaboration and accuracy, with competitive benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of experience as an estimator in construction.
• Experience with excavation or earthwork preferred.
• Knowledge of Utah/Arizona subcontractor network.

Responsibilities

• Defines work scope and selects subcontractors in cooperation with Sr. Estimator.
• Develops relationships with subcontractors and assesses bids accordingly.
• Proficient in quantity takeoffs and organizing estimates in Timberline.
• Becomes proficient in conceptual estimating in Timberline through CM Process across stages (Program, Schematic, DD, CD).
• Understands CPM scheduling and translates into construction budget; communicates with subcontractors.
• Understands means and methods of construction and labor productivity rates.
• Knows unit costs of materials and labor; estimates SF costs for various building types.
• Support design-build projects with budgeting and design coordination.
• Participates in forecast meetings and tracks budget vs. actual costs.
• Lends support to Big-D’s mission and policies; participates in VE sessions.

Job description

Big-D Self-Perform is looking for a dynamic Senior Estimator to join the growing team in Tempe or Salt Lake City. This role will help support the preconstruction team by helping develop accurate, well-organized estimates for concrete scopes. This role is ideal for an estimator who understands construction documents and is looking to grow within a collaborative preconstruction team.

Experience/Training:

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or similar degree or experience in lieu of
• 5+ years of experience as an Estimator in the construction industry
• Experience with excavation or earthwork preferred
• Knowledge of the subcontractor network in the Utah and/or Arizona market

Critical Skills:

• Excellent computer skills, typing, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam
• Proficient in OnScreen Takeoff (OST)
• Consistently produces accurate work and has excellent attention to detail
• Profit oriented
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Work well in a team environment
• Industry knowledge and aware of current market conditions and subcontractor network

Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations: (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)

• Defines work scope and select subcontractors in cooperation with Sr. Estimator
• Develops important relationships with subcontractors and considers the relationship when making decisions
• Proficient in quantity takeoffs
• Proficient in organizing and assembling estimates in Timberline
• Successful in hard bidding projects, organize scopes of work in bidday program
• Becomes proficient in conceptual estimating in Timberline through the CM Process (Program, Schematic, DD, CD, etc)
• Understands CPM Scheduling and can translate into construction budget. Clearly communicates with Subcontractors scheduling expectations.
• Understands means and methods of construction. Know the different labor productivity rates of these items.
• Knows unit costs of different construction materials and labor
• Knows overall SF cost of construction for different building types
• Begin working with Sr. Estimator in design build projects (conceptual estimating, working with architects in design, manage budget)
• Understands VE process and participate in working session
• Call subcontractors and develops interest in projects
• Understands turnover process and conveys project information comprehensively
• Participates in forecast meetings and tracks budget vs. actual costs through construction
• Learns financial risk management with subcontractor bids
