Job summary

Hatched Recruitment Group in Florida is seeking an experienced highway estimator to join a civil contracting client. You will prepare detailed estimates for asphalt paving, roadway reconstruction, and DOT bids, reviewing plans and specs to ensure competitive, accurate submissions.

You'll apply your five-plus years of estimating experience to assess costs, production rates, and risks, develop bid packages, and identify value-engineering opportunities across bridges, drainage, earthwork and paving

Qualifications

• Five+ years of estimating experience in asphalt paving, roadway or heavy highway construction.
• Experience bidding on DOT/public roadway projects.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates and bid packages for highway, roadway and asphalt paving projects.
• Review plans, specifications, proposals, RFPs and other project documentation.
• Complete quantity takeoffs and evaluate labour, equipment and material costs.
• Obtain and review subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Develop estimates from conceptual drawings through to final bid submission.
• Assess project risks, construction challenges and potential cost exposures.
• Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative construction approaches.
• Work with project teams to ensure estimates reflect practical methods and realistic production costs.
• Prepare estimating reports and cost analyses as required.

Looking to take your heavy highway estimating experience further? This is an opportunity to work on major Florida infrastructure projects with an established civil contractor delivering highway improvements, roadway reconstruction and asphalt paving.

You'll play an important role in developing competitive bids for DOT and public-sector projects, using your understanding of paving operations, construction costs and production rates to help secure new work. With a varied project portfolio spanning highways, bridges, earthwork and drainage, you'll have the opportunity to apply your estimating expertise across a range of challenging civil construction projects.

The Opportunity

The Role

What We're Looking For

• At least five years of estimating experience in asphalt paving, roadway or heavy highway construction.
• Experience bidding on DOT or other public roadway projects, ideally valued between $1M and $25M.
• Working knowledge of asphalt paving operations and roadway construction methods.
• Experience using HCSS HeavyBid or similar estimating software.
• Ability to interpret civil construction plans, specifications and bid documents.
• Strong quantity take-off, cost analysis and pricing skills.
• A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong attention to detail, communication skills and the ability to manage bid deadlines.

This is not an entry-level opportunity. The successful candidate will have the estimating experience and technical understanding to prepare accurate, competitive bids with minimal supervision.
