Job summary

Hubbard Construction Company in Florida is seeking an experienced Estimator with at least 3 years of asphalt estimating, focusing on DOT and heavy highway projects.

Responsibilities include bidding, pricing labor, equipment and materials, and producing both conceptual and final contract estimates.

A four-year degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering, plus experience with a General Contractor and DOT bids; HCSS software is a plus. Travel within Florida may be required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of asphalt estimating experience with emphasis on DOT/heavy highway work.
• Experience bidding for a General Contractor on DOT projects.
• Ability to price labor, equipment and materials accurately.
• Knowledge of construction assemblies and project phases.
• Experience producing conceptual and final estimates.

General Description

This position within Hubbard Construction Company will have at least 3 years of asphalt estimating experience, with an emphasis on DOT Work.

Key Duties

• Experience working for a General Contractor as an estimator bidding on DOT or heavy highway projects required.
• Estimating projects which typically range from 5 million to 50 million dollars.
• Estimating self-performed work and pricing the labor, equipment, and material costs.
• Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases.
• Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.
• Ability to produce detailed, final contract estimates.
• Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and be able to appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an estimate.
• Ability to identify constructability issues through the estimating process.
• Ability to identify value-engineering alternatives.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
• Working experience on HCSS software a plus.
• Travel within Florida may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience.

This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as an Estimator.

• A four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent required.
• Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.
• Experience working for a General Contractor as an estimator bidding on DOT or heavy highway projects between $5M and $50M required.
• This position requires you to be experienced in estimating bridges and /or grading and utilities of D.O.T. projects. Typical projects are bridges, interstate rehabs, highway replacements, concrete paving, and airport projects.
• Valid Florida driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

Physical Demands.

• Frequent ability to sit for prolonged periods of time;
• Frequent ability to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone;
• Frequent ability to operate standard office equipment, using hand and arm dexterity;
• Frequent ability to navigate through office environment, including periodic use of stairs and/or elevator, as needed;
• Infrequent ability to lift general office documents and materials, up to 10 pounds;
• Frequent vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment.

• Work generally is performed in an office environment, although periodic visits to construction sites and asphalt manufacturing facilities is required.
• Noise level in the typical office work environment is quiet; however, when visiting construction sites and/or asphalt manufacturing facilities, various levels of noise, dust and other environmental exposures may occur; any exposure is within the established Permissible Exposure Limits, however Personal protective Equipment such as hardhats, hearing protection and safety glasses, may be required.
