Job summary

Topeka Foundry & Iron Works in Denver, CO is seeking a seasoned CNC Estimator to develop detailed cost estimates for milling, turning, and multitasking CNC machines. You will prepare competitive bids and work cross-functionally with production, engineering, and procurement to optimize manufacturability and costs.

The role requires at least five years' experience in contract manufacturing, strong GD&T reading skills, and proficiency with CAD/CAM tools and cost-estimation software.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years experience in CNC machining estimation within contract manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, and setups.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for CNC projects across milling, turning, and multitasking machines.
  • Prepare bids and proposals aligned with project specs and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and procurement teams to improve manufacturability and costs.
  • Stay current on market trends and material costs to keep estimates competitive.
  • Manage multiple quote requests with timely, accurate deliverables.

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for CNC projects, accounting for materials, labor, machining time, tooling, and setups for milling, turning, and multi-tasking machines.
  • Prepare competitive bids and proposals that align with project specifications and quality standards.
Technical Analysis:
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, including GD&T, and assess quality control requirements.
  • Evaluate machining practices such as material removal rates, material types, tooling, and setups.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work with production, engineering, quality, and procurement teams to optimize manufacturability, supplier sourcing, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Provide feedback to the quoting and process planning teams to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Market & Cost Monitoring:
  • Stay current on market trends, material costs, and evolving CNC machining technologies to ensure competitive estimates.
Time Management & Organization:
  • Manage multiple concurrent quote requests, ensuring timely delivery of accurate estimates.
  • Maintain organized records of quotes, revisions, and supporting documentation for easy reference and audit readiness.
Position Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years experience in CNC machining estimation within a contract manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T specifications.
  • Deep understanding of machining practices, including material removal rates, tooling, and setups for milling, turning, and multi-tasking CNC machines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities to handle competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in cost estimation software and CAD/CAM tools.
