Job summary

Capital TechSearch, Inc. is seeking a Senior Estimator for central Virginia, focusing on commercial concrete projects. You will prepare bids for packages of $10M and up, review front-end docs, perform takeoffs, and craft detailed proposals.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of commercial concrete estimating experience.
• Strong knowledge of foundations, elevated slabs, cast-in-place structures, formwork, rebar and post-tensioning.
• Proven track record of winning work and maintaining a healthy bid pipeline.
• Experience with job profitability analysis and comparing estimated vs actual costs.
• Proficiency with estimating software: On Center, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Quick Bid.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete bids for commercial concrete packages of $10M+ from RFP to submission.
• Review drawings, specifications, addenda and geotechnical reports to define scope.
• Do quantity takeoffs and price labor, materials, equipment and subcontractor quotes.
• Write clear proposals with detailed scopes of work, inclusions and exclusions.
• Track and maintain active bids, including revisions, value engineering, and scope review calls.
• Handoff awarded projects to operations and track estimated vs actual costs.
• Work closely with operations, project managers, superintendents, general contractors and suppliers.

Capital TechSearch, Inc. has been retained by a well-established commercial concrete contractor in Central Virginia to hire a Senior Estimator. The company is part of a larger, family-owned construction group. It offers the stability of a bigger organization with the feel of a close-knit team. This is a key role, and your estimates will directly shape the work the company wins.

The company works on academic, medical, multifamily, parking structure, and other commercial building projects, covering foundations, cast-in-place structures, slabs, and specialty concrete.

What you’ll do

• Prepare complete bids for commercial concrete packages of $10M and up, from the request for proposal through submission
• Review front-end documents, drawings, specifications, addenda and geotechnical reports to define scope
• Do quantity takeoffs and price labor, materials, equipment and subcontractor quotes
• Write clear proposals with detailed scopes of work: inclusions, exclusions, qualifications and alternates
• Track and maintain active bids, including follow-up, revisions, value engineering and scope review calls with general contractors
• Hand off awarded projects to operations, and track estimated against actual costs to improve future pricing
• Work closely with operations, project managers, superintendents, general contractors and suppliers

What you bring

• 7+ years of commercial concrete estimating experience, including packages of $10M or more
• Strong knowledge of building construction: foundations, elevated slabs, cast-in-place structures, formwork, rebar and post-tensioning
• A track record of winning work and maintaining a healthy bid pipeline
• Experience with job profit and loss, or with comparing estimated and actual costs
• Skill with estimating and takeoff software. On Center (On-Screen Takeoff and Quick Bid) is strongly preferred; Bluebeam, PlanSwift or similar tools also count.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
