Job summary

High Star Traffic is seeking a Senior Estimator to work under Business Development, applying traffic control project estimating expertise to current projects and to help operations secure new work.

The duties include reviewing bids, preparing quantity take-offs, and collaborating with Sales, Operations, Contracts, and Purchasing to ensure accurate, profitable bids while upholding safety and ethics on all estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or similar discipline.
  • 15+ years related estimating experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of traffic costing, estimating, and purchasing.
  • Knowledge of MUTCD and Work Zone setups preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review bids for accuracy and profitability.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and cost studies for the assigned scope.
  • Review drawings and specifications to prepare quality bids.
  • Identify design-related issues and document potential risks.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, compliance, and ethics on all estimates.
  • Analyze plans to estimate material and labor costs (delivery, installation, maintenance, removal).
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Contracts and Purchasing during pre-bid efforts.
  • Review bid documents and material requirements for feasibility.
  • Coordinate with contractors on quotes, change orders and material requests.
  • Analyze subcontractor capabilities and past performance relative to projects.
  • Provide information on specs for current and future jobs when requested.
  • Generate New Approved Unit Prices for existing jobs.
  • Support other projects and initiatives that drive organizational goals.

Job description

While working independently under the direction of Business Development, the Senior Estimator will utilize their subject matter expertise in traffic control project estimating for current projects and assist operations to secure new work.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Review bids completed by other estimators, ensuring accuracy and profitability.
  • Prepare and review quantity take-offs - analysis, estimates, and studies for all items incorporated in the assigned scope.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and all other documents to prepare quality bids.
  • Notify management of design-related issues, completeness of documents and other potential risks.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, compliance, and ethics on all estimates at all times.
  • Analyze plans and job requirements to estimate material and labor costs for projects to include delivery, installation, maintenance, and removal of equipment.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Sales, Operations, Contracts and Purchasing during pre-bid efforts.
  • Review and understand all bid documents and material requirements to assess feasibility and product material requirements.
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate with contractors, following up on quotes, change orders, and material requests.
  • Analyze subcontractor bonding capabilities, workload, and prior performance relative to projects.
  • When requested, provide information on specs that arise in current and/or future jobs.
  • Generate New Approved Unit Price (AUP’s) for existing jobs.
  • Other projects and initiatives that drive organizational goals and results.
Education, Certifications & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or similar discipline, Estimating Certification a plus.
  • 15+ years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of traffic costing, estimating, and purchasing.
  • Knowledge of MUTCD and Work Zone set ups preferred.

  • This position will work in an office setting but may travel to off-site locations and therefore require wearing all PPE depending on circumstance which may include dust mask, safety glasses, hard hat, ear protection, high-visibility safety vest and/or safety pants and/or steel toed footwear. At times client contract driven PPE may also be required.
