C.A. Murren is seeking a Senior Estimator for heavy civil construction based in Grayson, GA.

The successful candidate will lead the estimating process for earthwork, site development, and underground utilities, bringing 8+ years of heavy civil estimating experience and a proven track record of accurate, competitive bids. Responsibilities include mentoring estimators, preparing detailed cost estimates, bid package development, and coordinating with operations through turnover.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of heavy civil estimating experience (required).
• Proven ability to price mass earthwork, site development, and underground utilities.
• Strong knowledge of construction means and methods.
• Ability to build estimates from conceptual to final bid.
• Proficiency with HeavyBid, PlanSwift, AGTEK, Primavera P6, and AutoCAD is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a compact team of estimators through takeoffs to bid submission.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects (earthwork, grading, utilities, site development).
• Perform quantity take-offs from plans and specs.
• Develop complete bid packages from start to finish.
• Coordinate sequencing, pricing accuracy, and vendor/subcontractor quotes.
• Support project turnover to operations after award.

Are you a strategic, detail-driven construction professional who thrives on building projects from the ground up—on paper first? Do you understand the full scope of earthwork, site development, and underground utilities before the first piece of equipment mobilizes? Are you known for producing accurate, competitive estimates while protecting margins? If so, we want to talk to you.

The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating process for heavy civil construction projects including earthwork, grading, site development, water, sewer, and storm drainage systems. This role will manage the full bid lifecycle—from prequalification and takeoffs through proposal development and turnover to operations.

The ideal candidate has strong experience pricing large-scale civil infrastructure projects and understands production rates, sequencing, risk evaluation, and subcontractor/vendor buyout strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Train, develop, and mentor a compact team of estimators, guiding team members through the estimating process from takeoffs to final proposal submission.
• Lead and prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects (earthwork, mass grading, underground wet utilities, site development).
• Perform quantity take-offs using plans and specifications.
• Develop complete bid packages from start to finish.
• Build work plans and construction sequencing strategies for pricing accuracy.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes.
• Maintain vendor and subcontractor databases.
• Complete prequalification packages for vendors and subcontractors.
• Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client walkthroughs.
• Prepare estimate summaries, bid tabs, and proposal documents.
• Assist in schedule development and coordination with operations.
• Support project turnover to project management team after award.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of heavy civil estimating experience (required).
• Proven experience estimating:
• Mass earthwork and grading
• Site development
• Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain)
• Strong knowledge of construction means and methods.
• Ability to build a project estimate from conceptual stage through final bid.
• Proficiency in estimating software such as:
• HeavyBid (preferred)
• PlanSwift (preferred)
• AGTEK (preferred)
• Primavera P6 (preferred)
• AutoCAD (preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Team leadership skills, including mentoring, workflow coordination, and oversight of estimating staff to achieve departmental goals.
• Field experience in heavy civil construction is a plus.
