Job summary

Hamilton County is seeking an Equipment Operator 3 to run medium to heavy highway maintenance equipment on diverse projects. You will perform preventive maintenance, set up work zones, operate trucks and loaders, and adhere to all OSHA safety standards.

Starting pay is $22.92/hour with a comprehensive benefits package including 11 holidays, vacation and sick time accrual, personal days, and a public retirement system. A valid CDL is required within 180 days; on-site parking is provided.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree from an accredited college, university, or technical training institute with major course work in construction management, construction technology or related field or completion of vocational training in heavy equipment operation or related field and two (2) years’ work experience in the operation of medium to heavy highway maintenance equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium to heavy equipment on highway maintenance, repair and construction projects (e.g., pavement marking equipment, Drott, bulldozer, black topper, and loader, grader, backhoe, Gradeall, operates flail mower, long-arm tractor, Mower-max etc.).
• Installs culverts and pipes; cuts and grades banks, berm and road beds.
• Determines proper work methods and procedures; observes safety standards and procedures.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment operated; inspects fluid levels, belts, lights, brakes.
• Sets up work zones and safety areas; flags ongoing traffic at construction sites.
• Records gas, oil, mileage and hours and loads hauled; operates front end loader as directed.
• Attends meetings and training; meets all job safety requirements and OSHA standards.
