Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and direct the Company’s environmental compliance programs (NPDES, CEQA, air quality, hazardous materials).
  • Supervise, develop and evaluate the Environmental Specialist team.
  • Monitor federal, state, and local regulations and assist in compliance.
  • Prepare technical documents, reports and studies for Regions and Districts.
  • Develop and supervise training on environmental health risks for employees.
  • Lead environmental audits and prepare assessments of Company property.
  • Maintain documentation to meet regulatory reporting guidelines.
  • Represent the Company on environmental committees.
  • Draft environmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Senior Environmental Specialist is a supervisory position that functions as a highly experienced professional specialist responsible for coordinating and directing the Company’s environmental compliance programs. These programs include but are not limited to compliance with National Pollution Discharge Elimination System, California Environmental Quality Act, air quality and hazardous material regulations.
  • This position is also responsible for the supervision, development and performance management of the Environmental Specialist.
  • This position is responsible for monitoring federal, state and local environmental regulations and legislation, and assisting the General Office, Regions and Districts in compliance with these regulations.
  • This position will provide support to the Regions and Districts in preparing technical documents, reports and studies.
  • Interprets and recommends actions to comply with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Supports Regions and Districts in compliance activities.
  • Oversees any needed Company research activities related to environmental issues. Prepares and implements studies to improve overall environmental quality control. Prepares technical reports and documents to support the Company’s operations including environmental business and functional plans including proposed budgets.
  • Analyze proposed legislation, environmental impact reports, environmental documents and environmental regulations that may impact the Company. Consults with internal and external contacts to provide technical expertise and information needed to effectively guide and enable others to comply with applicable policies, rules, regulations and laws.
  • Develops and supervises the training and other communications programs for employees to ensure that relevant information and procedures related to environmental health risks are effectively disseminated to management, supervisors, and all other employees. Prepare responses and reports that reflect the best interests of the Company and its customers.
  • Initiates, coordinates and participates in environmental audits. Prepares environmental assessments of Company property. Recommend actions to reduce potential environmental hazards.
  • Oversees and monitors the maintenance of relevant documentation to ensure accurate and timely record-keeping for proactive management purposes and to meet regulatory guidelines for documentation and reporting.
  • Serve as Company’s representative on environmental committees, both internally and externally.
  • Prepare environmental policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other related sciences or related field.
  • Five years environmental engineering, regulations and operations experience with demonstrated increasing responsibilities performing highly complex work desired.
  • Ten years progressively responsible environmental experience can substitute for a degree.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

The compensation range provided is in compliance with state specific laws. Multiple factors are used to determine the actual starting rate of pay for all of our positions, including specific skills, years of experience, education, certification(s), and other job related factors.
