Job summary

Pike Engineering in Fort Mill, SC is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to support utility projects by conducting environmental assessments, including stream/wetlands delineation, habitat inventories, and regulatory permitting. The role requires advanced knowledge of ecological systems and regulatory conditions, independence, and mentoring capabilities.

The position also supports transmission line and substation siting analyses using GIS, along with budgeting, reporting, and coordination

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University in Natural Sciences or equivalent experience.
• 7-9 years experience in Natural Resources and Ecological Consulting.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements (NEPA, SEPA, Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service).
• Ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
• Experience with field delineation and environmental reporting.

Responsibilities

• Conducts field environmental assessments by traversing utility corridors to delineate streams, wetlands, habitat, and identify species.
• Prepares environmental and technical reports documenting findings and supports mitigation and permitting.
• Provides regulatory and permitting application support with agencies such as NEPA, SEPA, and Army Corps of Engineers.
• Supports line and substation siting by applying environmental principles.
• Prepares, estimates, and budgets for environmental activities and monitors costs.
• Develops and guides junior staff scientists.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.
