How will you contribute to the team?

• Conduct or participate in natural resource field investigations, including waters of the US, habitat assessments for threatened and endangered species, vegetative community surveys, specimen collection, construction monitoring, and stormwater and erosion control monitoring and compliance.
• Prepare technical reports of findings; support permit and NEPA document preparation; provide peer reviews of reports prepared by others.
• Serve as an Authorized Biologist for Mojave Desert Tortoise.
• Lead in-field teams of junior staff and technicians; coordinate with other Authorized Biologists.
• Plan field work and coordinate with various parties regarding timing and locations.
• Lead health and safety in the field, including safety documentation and adherence to protocols.
• Maintain organized field notes and data to meet project objectives.
• Communicate study results effectively to project management.
• Support proposal development, including scope, technical approaches, and fee estimates.
• Act as an in-field point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
• Assist in project management as needed.
• Occasional work during afternoons and weekends, depending on project needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

What will you contribute?

• B.S./B.A. or M.S. in Natural Resources (e.g., Wildlife Biology, Botany, Conservation Biology, Ecology). Typically, candidates have 8-10 years of experience with a Bachelor's or 5-8 years with a Master's; the ideal candidate has at least 10 years of experience.
• Strong analytical, technical writing, computer, and communication skills.
• Experience with waters of the US, Section 404/401 permitting, Nationwide Permits, Pre-construction Notifications, Regional General Permits, and possibly Individual Permits.
• Ability to obtain authorization from USFWS.
• Familiarity with regional flora and fauna.
• Experience with Mojave Desert tortoise surveys as an Authorized Biologist is preferred.
• Experience with BLM plant surveys and other rare plant surveys in California and Nevada is preferred.
• Knowledge of impact analysis, NEPA documentation, stormwater, and erosion compliance.
• Wetland and stream assessment and mitigation experience.
• Understanding of stream hydrology principles.
• GIS skills and familiarity with GPS equipment.
• General understanding of industries such as infrastructure, transportation, water quality, or government projects.
• Prior USACE and NDOT project experience preferred; USACE districts Walla Walla and Portland/Seattle helpful.
• Experience with presence/absence surveys and USFWS permits or ability to obtain permits.
• Willingness to travel routinely.
• Ability to work confidently in harsh outdoor climates across the Western and Southwestern US year-round.
• Strong safety awareness.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
