Job summary

Weston Solutions, Inc. is hiring a Senior Project Scientist to lead environmental investigations, remediation, and emergency response efforts, guiding technical decisions and delivering high-quality client outcomes.

The role centers on managing complex field programs, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams in Pittsburgh, PA, with a strong emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and robust reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Environmental Science, Geoscience, Engineering, Physical Science, Life Science, or related field.
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in environmental investigations, remediation, emergency response operations, or a combination of these areas.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex environmental site investigations or remediation projects involving potentially hazardous substances.
  • Ability to serve as a technical resource, guide complex technical decisions, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience managing field operations, subcontractors, multidisciplinary teams, project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, risks, and technical deliverables.
  • Experience developing and reviewing technical reports, investigation documents, work plans, field sampling plans, health and safety plans, technical procedures, and quality assurance documentation.
  • Strong ability to analyze, interpret, organize, and communicate analytical data, monitoring results, and field observations.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, client-facing, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using field sampling equipment, air and water monitoring instruments, PPE, and related field tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex environmental investigations, remediation programs, emergency response activities, and related field and office assignments from planning through completion.
  • Manage project execution in accordance with scope, budget, schedule, technical requirements, regulatory standards, Weston procedures, and client expectations.
  • Plan and oversee field investigations and sampling programs at active construction, remediation, and potentially hazardous sites.
  • Direct field staff, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary teams while coordinating resources and reinforcing safe, efficient work practices.
  • Analyze field observations, analytical data, and monitoring results to develop defensible conclusions, recommendations, and project strategies.
  • Prepare and review scientific reports, investigation summaries, removal action documentation, technical memoranda, work plans, sampling plans, health and safety plans, quality assurance documents, schedules, budgets, and other deliverables.
  • Conduct peer reviews of project scopes, technical documents, calculations, data interpretations, and deliverables to support quality and consistency.
  • Identify project risks, constraints, and opportunities, and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Communicate project objectives, progress, needs, concerns, and deliverable expectations to clients, stakeholders, Project Managers, subcontractors, technical teams, and leadership.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable field documentation, correspondence, notebooks, technical files, and project records.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance to project teams.
  • Evaluate new technologies, tools, and techniques for potential use in project execution and Weston service offerings.
  • Lead EHS compliance for complex assignments and ensure work aligns with Weston's EHS Program, project safety plans, technical procedures, quality requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Reinforce Stop Work Authority, personal accountability, and project- and site-specific safety expectations with staff and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with EHS personnel when plans do not align with project scope or site conditions.
  • Work safely at active and potentially hazardous sites using required PPE, including OSHA Levels D through A, as applicable.
