Job summary

System One, Suffern, NY, is seeking an Environmental Planner / Environmental Scientist to support environmental review projects from start to finish. You will perform analyses, prepare sections of EIS/EA documents, and coordinate with subconsultants and clients.

Ideal candidates bring 3+ years of experience, strong technical writing, and knowledge of NY regulations, with the ability to manage multiple assignments in a consulting setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Policy, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related; Master's preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, 5+ years preferred.
• Experience preparing/managing environmental review documents under SEQRA and/or NEPA; CEQR a plus.
• Strong understanding of NY environmental regulations, permitting, and review procedures.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing schedules and budgets.
• Excellent technical writing, analytical, research, and organizational skills.
• Experience presenting before boards/agencies or at public hearings desirable.
• Proficiency with MS Office; GIS and environmental data analysis tools preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments in a collaborative consulting environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in management of environmental review projects from initiation through completion.
• Perform environmental and zoning regulatory analyses.
• Prepare and oversee sections of EIS/EA and related documents.
• Conduct analyses involving natural resources, wetlands, water resources, and land use.
• Coordinate and review studies by subconsultants and SMEs.
• Identify potential impacts and develop mitigation strategies.
• Support permitting and regulatory compliance efforts under state and federal programs.
• Prepare technical reports with exhibits, maps, and graphics.
• Work with clients, municipal boards, agencies, and project teams.
• Participate in public meetings/hearings and respond to comments.
• Mentor and supervise junior environmental staff; perform QC of outputs.
