Join to apply for the Senior Environmental Manager 1 role at GAI Consultants, Inc.

GAI is seeking a Senior Environmental Manager 1 to join our team to build our business with sales, project management, and technical expertise. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Hybrid or remote arrangements will be considered.

The primary work responsibility will be to manage and provide technical services for environmental resources on energy projects, including wetland field reviews, rare species surveys and monitoring, stormwater compliance monitoring, and environmental permitting. Responsibilities include technical report preparation, documentation, permitting, project management, coordination, scheduling, budgeting, invoicing, and quality control reviews.

This position will either manage projects or work under the direction of a Project Manager. It involves coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies, assisting in project delivery from inception to completion, and ensuring projects are on time, on budget, and of high quality.

Job Duties:
  1. This role will include approximately 15% travel and 85% office-based work.
  2. Providing technical services such as oversight for wetland and stream delineations, endangered species, invasive species, sediment and erosion control planning, environmental permitting (local, state, and federal), and construction inspection and erosion control monitoring.
  3. Managing all aspects of the project lifecycle: planning, scope definition, execution, and delivery.
  4. Tracking progress toward milestones, budgets, or other performance indicators.
  5. Overseeing project activities of external subconsultants or vendors.
  6. Developing client relationships and supporting business development activities, primarily from existing clients.
  7. Supervising staff and providing leadership, coaching, and mentoring as appropriate.
  8. Performing work under minimal supervision, handling complex issues, and referring complex problems to higher-level staff.
  9. Monthly travel to varied locations, including overnight stays, based on client needs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Relevant professional license or certification (e.g., PE, PLS, PG, RLA).
  • Preferred certifications include:
    • 40-hour Hazardous Site Safety Training
    • Wetland Delineation Training
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
Travel Requirement:
  • 10-20% travel nationally.

Experience & Education:
  • 16+ years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or a similar field.

  • Staff recruitment, retention, and talent development.
  • Interpreting management strategy into daily policies.
  • Managing staff performance and fostering a positive work environment.
Communication Skills:
  • Regular interaction with clients, officials, and contractors; leading project meetings and presentations; representing the company positively.
