Job summary

The Center for Biological Diversity seeks an Attorney (Staff or Senior) to lead public lands litigation in the Great Basin. This remote role supports Nevada and surrounding states with strong emphasis on Endangered Species Act, NEPA, and related statutes.

The position requires at least three years of environmental litigation for Staff or eight years for Senior, with excellent writing, research, and advocacy skills and a commitment to justice, equity, inclusion in a collaborative, nationwide

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor and admission to a state bar.
• Minimum three years (Staff Attorney) or eight years (Senior Attorney) of environmental and natural resources litigation.
• Experience litigating under ESA, NEPA, FLPMA, and APA.
• Knowledge of federal laws on public lands and endangered species.
• General knowledge of water law.
• Strong writing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage a full docket with deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Track and comment on harmful proposals and plan amendments.
• Litigate to challenge projects in federal and state court.
• Engage in administrative advocacy and petitions.
• Analyze pending state and federal legislation.
• Participate in strategic planning and campaign execution.
• Develop cases to advance Great Basin goals.
• Collaborate with partners, scientists, and staff.
• Prepare external communications and present at conferences.
• Travel as needed for meetings and hearings.
