Job summary

State of Maine seeks an Environmental Specialist III in Presque Isle to lead enforcement and field inspections within the Field Services Division. The role focuses on implementing environmental protection laws, evaluating development permits, and pursuing enforcement actions to prevent pollution in Northern Maine.

The Senior Inspector works with multiple statutes and participates in public meetings, hearings, and Board presentations.

Qualifications

• Six year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering.
• At least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site visits in response to environmental complaints.
• Make field determinations to confirm presence of protected resources.
• Perform compliance inspections of licensed activities.
• Evaluate permit-by-rule applications.
• Pursue formal enforcement actions including warnings, notices of violations, and consent agreements.
