Job summary

The Virginia Department of Health is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist Senior for the Central Virginia Health District. The role emphasizes the onsite sewage and private well program, rabies prevention, campgrounds and marinas, with required training and licensure within 30 months of hire.

Based in the Bedford County office, occasional travel to other district offices may be required. A valid Virginia driver's license is necessary to operate state vehicles on agency business.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of biology, epidemiology, chemistry, math and statistics.
• Ability to interpret complex environmental health policies and regulations.
• Strong communication, report writing and training abilities.
• Must be licensed as Master onsite soil evaluator or equivalent per DPOR/VDH standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage onsite sewage and private well programs with required training.
• Assist with rabies prevention, campgrounds and marinas responsibilities.
• Complete documentation and regulatory reports; provide education to stakeholders.
