Job summary

The Virginia Department of Health is seeking an Environment Health Specialist I in Gloucester to perform entry-level environmental health duties under supervision. Responsibilities include inspections and education across food safety, well and septic programs, and on-site evaluations.

This role offers training in multiple program areas and opportunities to obtain required credentials while serving the community in the Three Rivers area.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and partners.

• Ability to obtain VDH/DPOR/NSSP credentials within 30 months.

Responsibilities

• Protect public health from disease transmission and groundwater pollution.
• Evaluate operation and maintenance of Sewage Disposal Systems and Private Wells.
• Prevent human illness and disease transmission from rabies.
• Monitor swimming pools, child and adult care facilities, hotels, and migrant labor camps.
