Job summary

Philip Morris International is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Senior Manager for our Wilson, NC factory. You will lead EHS strategy, compliance programs, and sustainability initiatives while building capability across the organization.

The role requires 7+ years in EHS leadership within manufacturing, with strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. A hybrid work model is available, and the position offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Certifications: NEBOSH or CSP desirable.
  • 7+ years in EHS leadership within manufacturing; multi-technology sites preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute EHS&S strategies aligned with global and local objectives.
  • Advise management on EHS&S compliance, risk mitigation, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Lead EHS&S implementation and capability-building across the organization.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee audits, inspections, and risk assessments; implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain reporting for regulatory agencies and corporate sustainability programs.
  • Drive proactive safety programs, including incident prevention and emergency preparedness.
  • Manage safety training requirements, scheduling and completion.
  • Lead plant safety committee and engage employees in EHS initiatives.
  • Implement ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 standards.
  • Monitor sustainability KPIs and report to senior management.
  • Benchmark best practices and promote continuous improvement in EHS&S systems.
  • Lead investigations of safety-related incidents and root-cause analyses.
  • Support business continuity planning and emergency response activities.
  • Direct and develop EHS&S team members and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS&S into daily processes.

Day to Day
  • Leadership & Strategy:
    • Develop and execute EHS&S strategies aligned with global and local objectives.
    • Serve as the primary advisor to management on EHS&S compliance, risk mitigation, and sustainability initiatives.
    • Lead the EHS&S implementation and capability‑building across the organization.
  • Compliance & Risk Management:
    • Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee audits, inspections, and risk assessments; implement corrective actions.
    • Maintain accurate reporting for regulatory agencies and corporate sustainability programs.
  • Safety Culture & Training:
    • Drive proactive safety programs, including incident prevention and emergency preparedness.
    • Manage safety training requirements, ensuring proper assignment, scheduling, and completion.
    • Lead plant safety committee and foster employee engagement in EHS initiatives.
  • Sustainability & Continuous Improvement:
    • Implement ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 standards.
    • Monitor sustainability performance indicators and report to senior management.
    • Benchmark best practices and promote continuous improvement in EHS&S systems.
  • Incident Management:
    • Lead investigations of safety‑related incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
    • Support business continuity planning and emergency response activities.
  • Team Management:
    • Direct and develop EHS&S team members, including Training Coordinator and other support roles.
    • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Operations, People & Culture, Engineering) to integrate EHS&S into daily processes.
What we are looking for:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or other related engineering field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certifications: NEBOSH, CSP, or equivalent certifications highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum 7+ years in EHS leadership roles within manufacturing; experience managing complex, preferred multi‑technology sites.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards (29 CFR), ISO systems, and sustainability frameworks. Ability to influence and engage at all organizational levels.

Annual Base Salary Range: $136,000 - $170,000
