Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan seeks an experienced environmental engineer at our Miami smelter and rod plant in Arizona. Under general supervision, you will lead environmental projects, assess regulatory requirements, and guide site teams on compliance with CERCLA, NEPA, and other acts.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Engineering with 5 years in Environmental Management (PM experience); a Master's with 3 years is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise, guidance and leadership for Environmental projects and programs at assigned site.
  • Determines and assesses environmental risk and develops regulatory documentation of results.
  • Performs hazardous waste site inspections and recommends actions to management.
  • Reviews and develops recommendations regarding facility expansions/modifications affecting discharges and hazardous materials.
  • Serves as Project Manager or technical expert on large environmental projects.
  • Evaluates and administers contracts with vendors for services and equipment.
  • Guides site management on regulatory programs and practices.
  • Contributes to site strategic planning and budgeting for environmental systems.
  • Maintains knowledge of Federal, State and local environmental regulations.
  • Provides leadership to junior engineers and technicians.
  • May represent site on environmental steering teams.
  • Performs other duties as required.

What You Will Do

Under general supervision, provides technical expertise, guidance and leadership for Environmental projects and programs at assigned site.

  • Determines and assesses environmental risk and develops regulatory documentation of results
  • Performs hazardous waste site inspections and recommends appropriate action to management in compliance with regulations
  • Reviews and develops appropriate recommendations regarding planned expansion, modification or closure of facilities which affect environmental discharges, emissions, and hazardous materials
  • Serves as Project Manager or technical expert on large/complex environmental projects (e.g., compliance, remediation, or reclamation)li>
  • Evaluates and administers contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
  • Provides guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable programs, practices, and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations
  • Contributes to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for environmental systems and issues
  • Maintains current working knowledge of Federal, State and local environmental and occupational health regulations (e.g., CERCLA, NEPA, SARA, Clean Air and Water Acts)
  • Provides leadership to less experienced engineers and technicians
  • May represent the site on company-sponsored steering teams, e.g. Freeport-McMoRan Environmental Steering Team
  • Performs other duties as required
What You Bring To Freeport
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (such as Environmental, Civil, Chemical, Agriculture, Mining, Metallurgical, Geological or similar Engineering discipline) and five (5) years of Engineering experience in Environmental Management, including Project Management experience, OR

Master's degree in Engineering (such as Environmental, Civil, Chemical, Agricultural, Mining, Metallurgical, Geological or similar Engineering discipline) and three (3) years of Engineering experience in Environmental Management, including Project Management experience

Preferred

  • Experience with data, qualityassurance, and quality control
  • Experience working in an industrial facility and ability to manage a dynamic operation and regulatory setting
  • Experience with air quality regulation and programs
What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$97,500-$138,000.This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
