Job summary

The City of San José is seeking a Supervising Environmental Services Specialist to lead the Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) within the Code Enforcement Division. You will supervise Environmental Inspection staff, oversee permitting and enforcement actions, and ensure compliance with state regulations to protect public health and the environment.

Responsibilities include program planning, reporting to CalRecycle, staff development, and interagency coordination with agencies like the State Water

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Four years of environmental program experience, with two years leading people or projects.
• Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience; additional experience may substitute for degree.
• California EH Specialist license is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and supervise daily activities of Environmental Inspection staff in LEA.
• Oversee solid waste facility permitting, reviewing permits and closures.
• Conduct and coordinate routine and complaint-driven inspections for compliance.
• Initiate enforcement actions including violations, corrective actions, and permit actions.
• Prepare annual reports to CalRecycle and maintain program documentation.
• Coordinate with state/regional partners on shared regulatory matters.
