Job summary

The University of Vermont is seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager to oversee a broad range of federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The role includes developing and administering environmental policies, updating permits, and coordinating regulatory reports while serving as a primary liaison with agencies.

Key responsibilities include managing air permit compliance, EPCRA Tier II reporting, SPCC planning, and hazardous waste programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical, biological, environmental sciences or related area.
  • 5+ years’ experience in environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable state/local environmental regulations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and program‑management skills.
  • Certification as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager ( CHMM ) or the ability to obtain the credential within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the University’s environmental regulatory compliance programs (air, EPCRA, SPCC, RCRA, TSCA, etc.).
  • Lead air permit development, emissions calculations, and related reporting.
  • Coordinate hazardous materials management and waste programs, including inspections and regulatory reporting.
  • Develop training for campus partners and EHS staff on environmental compliance topics.
  • Provide strategic leadership for hazardous building materials programs and supervise staff.
