Job summary

Sigma Earth is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to ensure facility adherence to federal, state, and local regulations in Kentucky. You will manage Title V permits, MACT standards, and regulatory reporting while guiding operations and coordinating with regulators.

Strong communication and project management skills are essential. This role involves advising management, coordinating with external agencies, and supporting incident responses across sites.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree is required.
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of environmental compliance experience preferred.
  • Experience with Title V air permitting and MACT standards.
  • Strong knowledge of Clean Air Act, RCRA, NPDES, SWPPP and SPCC.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct facility reviews to ensure regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Apply for environmental permits and manage renewal schedules.
  • Prepare regulatory reports and submissions for agencies and management.
  • Develop, update and maintain environmental plans and compliance documents.
  • Identify compliance gaps and coordinate corrective actions with management.
  • Advise on operational changes to reduce environmental non-compliance.
  • Serve as liaison between facilities, contractors and regulatory personnel.
  • Communicate with agencies on permit conditions and proposed regulations.
  • Respond to incidents and assist investigations and notifications.
  • Track regulatory updates to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to sales, field personnel and customers.
  • Audit facilities to confirm permitting and compliance.
  • Travel to facilities for audits and investigations.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Conduct formal and systematic facility reviews to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Apply for environmental permits and manage schedules for renewals, reporting, and permit-related requirements.
  • Prepare regulatory reports, documentation, and submissions required by agencies, corporate leadership, and facility management.
  • Develop, update, and maintain environmental plans, procedures, and compliance documents for facilities as needed.
  • Identify compliance gaps, recommend corrective actions, prioritize issues, and follow up to ensure timely resolution.
  • Advise corporate and facility management on operational or procedural changes needed to reduce or correct environmental non-compliance.
  • Serve as a point of contact between facilities, external contractors, and regulatory personnel for environmental projects and compliance activities.
  • Communicate and negotiate with regulatory agencies on legal agreements, permit conditions, and proposed regulations in the organization’s interest.
  • Respond to major incidents, accidents, and complaints, guide operational teams, prepare required notifications or reports, and support management investigations.
  • Track regulatory updates to ensure continued compliance with upcoming federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Provide guidance to sales teams, field personnel, and customers on applicable environmental regulations.
  • Audit internal and external facilities to confirm proper permitting and operational compliance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs.
  • Travel occasionally to facilities for audits, inspections, investigations, and other compliance-related activities.
Qualifications
  • BS/BA degree required.
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of environmental compliance experience preferred.
  • Experience with Title V air permitting and MACT standards required.
  • Strong practical knowledge of key regulatory programs, including the Clean Air Act, RCRA, NPDES, SWPPP, and SPCC.
  • Experience working under or supporting a Consent Decree preferred.
  • Industry experience in pharmaceutical, medical, or DEA-regulated environments preferred.
  • Environmental consulting experience preferred.
  • Multi-state environmental compliance experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
