Job summary

Washington State Department of Ecology is seeking a Cleanup Site Manager (Environmental Engineer 5) in the Toxics Cleanup Program. The role oversees a portfolio of contaminated site projects from investigation through remediation, ensuring protection of human health and the environment.

You will collaborate with engineers, geologists, scientists, and specialists to reach project closure. This senior position requires PE licensure in WA or equivalent and five years of environmental engineering

Qualifications

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in environmental engineering.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and convey expectations to others.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate project information with internal and external parties.
  • Experience applying MTCA, SMS, SCUM or similar guidance to cleanup projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as principal engineer and project manager for complex cleanup sites.
  • Provide engineering oversight to ensure compliance with MTCA, SMS, SCUM and regulations.
  • Lead Key Site Meetings with Liable Parties to advance cleanup projects.
  • Conduct annual field visits to observe investigation, monitoring, sampling, and remediation; travel required.
  • Review technical documents for completeness and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare clear directives to liable parties and the public in documents and memos.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, data, and records in agency systems.
  • Oversee Remedial Action Grant funding review and cost approvals.
  • Develop Agreed Orders, Consent Decrees, and Enforcement Orders with AGO.
