Job summary

Washington State Department of Ecology is hiring two Voluntary Cleanup Program Site Managers (Hydrogeologist 3) in the Toxics Cleanup Program to oversee MTCA cleanup actions in the Southwest region, evaluating complex data and guiding consultants toward sound cleanup decisions.

You will review technical reports, provide oversight, prepare regulatory determinations, and mentor junior staff, with a mix of office and commutable in-person work from Lacey, WA.

Qualifications

  • Experience reviewing environmental cleanup investigations and applying regulations.
  • Skill in managing multiple contaminated-site projects and schedules.
  • Ability to interpret geologic and hydrogeologic data for decisions.
  • Strong technical writing for reports, letters, and determinations.
  • Collaborative work with owners, consultants, and agencies.
  • Experience evaluating field activities and maintaining site records.
  • Ability to mentor staff and contribute to peer review.

Responsibilities

  • Review reports, data, work plans, and proposals to identify regulatory steps.
  • Conduct initial investigations and hazard assessments with clear recommendations.
  • Provide technical oversight and hydrogeologic review of cleanup sites.
  • Prepare regulatory correspondence and documentation for progress.
  • Collaborate with owners, consultants, and agencies to address issues.
  • Offer mentorship and participate in program workgroups.
  • Maintain accurate site records and data submittals in databases.
