Job summary

University of Florida is seeking a professional-level Systems Database Administrator V to join the UFIT Infrastructure and Communication Technologies team. You will provide expert-level administration of enterprise database systems (MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) ensuring performance and reliability for critical infrastructure.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and extensive experience with MS SQL Server, Always On HA, Failover Clustering, and IaC tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, or a related field.
• Expert-level administration and configuration of Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) and Windows OS environments (VM and Bare-metal).
• Advanced experience with MSSQL Always On High Availability (HA) technologies and Windows Failover Clustering.
• Experience managing database systems within CJIS and FISMA environments, or other highly regulated data frameworks, when required.
• Proficiency in secondary team platforms including Linux OS, MySQL, and Oracle Enterprise Database.
• Infrastructure deployment and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Terraform.

Responsibilities

• Expert System Administration & High Availability (40%): Conduct expert administration of complex Enterprise Database Systems with a primary focus on MS SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and MS Windows Failover Clustering.
• Compliance & Secure Environments (10%): Ensure database systems comply with strict security frameworks, including CJIS, FISMA.
• Technical Design & Engineering (25%): Design infrastructure solutions and analyze vendor options for on‑premise and cloud environments.
• Mentorship & Technical Coordination (10%): Mentor staff and coordinate initiatives across teams.
• Documentation, Training, & Quality Control (5%): Maintain comprehensive system documentation.
• Project Guidance & Strategy (10%): Provide technical guidance for projects and capacity planning.
