Job summary

Booz Allen Hamilton is seeking a Backup Systems Engineer to design, deploy, and support enterprise backup and recovery systems for the U.S. Navy.

You will manage Commvault, Windows Server, VMware vSphere, and Azure environments, translating complex needs into robust protection strategies and documentation. The role requires hands-on expertise, security clearance, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and optimization within a fast-paced enterprise IT setting.

Qualifications

• 8+ years developing and administering enterprise backup platforms (Commvault, CommCell, Media Agents, deduplication, encryption, air-gap/immutability)
• 5+ years supporting Windows Server networks (AD, DNS/DHCP, VSS, storage services)
• 2+ years operating VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter, backups, CBT, app-consistent backups)
• 2+ years PowerShell scripting for automation
• Experience with Commvault or Rubrik at scale (multi-site, multi-tenant)
• Experience documenting runbooks, SOPs, architecture diagrams, and operational metrics
• Knowledge of routing, VLANs, firewalls, and secure backup networks
• Secret clearance
• HS diploma or GED
• DoD 8570.11 IAT Level II certifications (e.g., Security+ / CISSP / SSCP)
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT and related certifications

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy backup and recovery solutions for Navy workloads
• Administer Commvault, Windows Server, VMware vSphere, and Azure environments
• Develop data protection strategies and runbooks aligned to Navy standards
• Provide engineering support to operational networks and collaborate on protection strategies
• Troubleshoot, optimize, and design resilient recovery architectures
