Job summary

Flagstar Bank is seeking a Distinguished Engineer to serve as a cross-organizational force multiplier, guiding enterprise-wide architecture and secure-by-design practices in New York, NY.

In this senior IC role, you will lead architectural design for cloud-native platforms, drive risk-aware engineering, and partner with CTO, CISO, and risk teams to align technology with regulatory and business goals. Travel up to 50% may be required.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of deep, hands-on engineering experience across multiple technical domains.
• Proven leadership as a Distinguished Engineer, Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, or Fellow in a Fortune 500 or large-scale financial institution.
• Extensive experience with regulatory frameworks (OCC, FFIEC, SOX, GLBA) and designing compliant systems from day one.

Responsibilities

• Architectural Leadership: Lead complex enterprise-wide architecture design and validation for strategic platforms with resiliency and auditability.
• Risk-Driven Engineering: Identify and remediate architectural risk vectors with InfoSec, Risk, and Control partners; embed compliance into technical patterns.
• Cross-Domain Influence: Serve as a trusted advisor across CTO, CISO, Risk, Delivery, and Architecture teams; drive reuse and reduce duplication.
• Acceleration & Evangelism: Design accelerators that improve time-to-market, developer productivity, and security posture.
• Service Delivery Enablement: Partner with Service Delivery to embed engineering standards and observability patterns into the operating model.
• Governance & Strategy: Represent architecture in forums and design review boards; influence governance policy and engineering standards.
