Job summary

Nelnet is seeking an Enterprise Architect to serve as a senior, hands-on technical driver for major initiatives including Horizon and AI governance across NCC products. You will translate complex requirements into secure, scalable architecture, guiding cross-functional teams and executives toward strategic outcomes.

This is a senior individual contributor role offering hybrid work, with a compensation range of $160,000–$177,796 based on experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of enterprise/infrastructure/solutions architecture experience.
• Experience defining vision, strategy, and roadmaps for complex initiatives.
• Experience designing secure, scalable solutions across infrastructure, data, cloud.
• Ability to influence decisions with executives and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the technical vision, architecture strategy, and roadmap for major initiatives.
• Lead engineering and architecture direction for large-scale projects as hands-on IC.
• Design secure, resilient, scalable enterprise solutions across infrastructure, apps, data, networks, and cloud.
• Translate business goals and product requirements into architecture options, specs, and guidance.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences including executives, clients, and engineers.
• Partner across functions to align architecture priorities and investment decisions.
• Evaluate current-state capabilities and emerging technologies to identify gaps and future-state approaches.
• Establish architecture standards and patterns for AI integration across Nelnet products.
• Guide complex integrations and major rollouts ensuring security, performance, and maintainability.
• Provide technical mentorship and thought leadership without formal reports.
