Individuals with high emotional intelligence, humility and openness to discovery will thrive in the teams we are building. Join our team to help build a better, more sustainable world for future generations!

What You Will Do

The Grid Code Integration team is responsible for understanding global grid codes, facilitating evaluation of technical requirements and product capability, and managing grid code certification of Caterpillar Electric Power products including gas and diesel generating sets, inverter products such as the modular Power Conversion System (mPCS) and the range of Cat Energy Control System (ECS) controls. The team is expanding responsibilities to provide technical consultancy on data center architecture and applications, and to provide Electric Power Simulation services, including site-level studies related to grid connections and data center solutions.

This role provides a unique opportunity for a Senior Engineering Specialist to develop their understanding of large-scale Electric Power projects, become a key technical consultant for customers and sales teams in the rapidly evolving area of AI datacenter architecture and grid code applications, and apply their expertise within an experienced team. For the right candidate, this role will include opportunities to collaborate with multiple Engineering teams and stakeholders across the Prime Power Customer Solutions and Standby Power Customer Solutions teams, Large Power Systems Division (LPSD), Integrated Drivetrain Energy Solutions (IDES) and Solar Turbines teams, supporting customers and providing technical leadership on complex projects.

As a Senior Engineering Specialist, you will primarily lead technical consultancy and engineering support for AI data center and large-scale power system applications, acting as a subject matter expert for customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders on prime power solutions, grid integration, and power system performance. You will oversee power system simulation studies, support business development activities, collaborate across Caterpillar divisions to develop integrated power solutions, provide technical leadership within the team, and represent Caterpillar in engagements with customers, utilities, consultants, certification bodies, and industry organizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical consultancy for AI data center and large-scale power system architectures, helping customers develop robust solutions.
  • Support business development activities by providing technical guidance, supporting customer presentations, and providing engineering consultation during project pursuit and execution.
  • Oversee and work closely with the Engineering Project Team Lead to execute power system simulation studies, including grid connection, transient stability, dynamic performance, and site-level analyses for utility and data center applications.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams across EPD, LPSD, ICES, Solar Turbines, and other Caterpillar divisions to deliver and influence development of integrated power solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the Prime Power Customer Solutions team, helping develop best practices, tools, and methodologies.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert for customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders on prime power applications, grid integration, grid code compliance, and power system performance.
  • Represent Caterpillar in discussions with certification bodies, utilities, consultants, customers, and industry organizations as required.
