Job summary

American Express in Providence is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team that designs and builds large-scale, cloud-native, event-driven applications to provide a 360-degree client view.

You will coach and guide junior colleagues, lay out group objectives, oversee designers, and work with product teams to design requirements, delivering scalable data processing and robust pipelines. This role offers strong growth and Amex Flex options.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated history building large-scale distributed applications with object-oriented design using a Java-related stack.
• Ability to design scalable, secure, highly available solutions.
• Able to articulate architecture and drive it across large teams.
• Experience with NoSQL technologies like Cassandra and Couchbase.
• Experience with REST, GraphQL, and gRPC on enterprise platforms.
• Expertise in big data technologies such as Hive, MapReduce, and Spark.
• Experience with CI/CD using Git and Jenkins.
• Experience with Vert.x and event-driven microservice architecture.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Docker/OpenShift-based deployments.

Responsibilities

• Construct new microservices to support our rapidly growing data lake.
• Build services to perform real-time data processing at scale for analytics questions across multi-layered data.
• Create features that simplify upstream data sourcing, sinking, and streaming.
• Improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of our data pipelines.
• Collaborate with designers across teams on multi-functional drives.
• Influence peers with innovative changes and demonstrate risk-taking.
• Be a productivity multiplier by refining your workflows and enabling faster, stronger results.
• Coach and guide junior colleagues to progress within the team.
• Own setting and driving team objectives and roadmaps.
• Oversee direct reports among designers in the group.
• Collaborate with product teams on design requirements.
