Job summary

American Express in Boise, USA seeks a Senior Engineer to help build a critical Customer 360 platform. You will design and operate micro‑services, enabling real‑time processing and scalable data access across relational and analytical workloads.

You will mentor teammates, drive cross‑functional initiatives, and advocate best practices in CI/CD, API design, and fault‑tolerant architectures. This role demands strong communication and the ability to translate complex solutions for broad audiences.

Qualifications

• Masters or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Designing scalable, high‑throughput, highly available solutions.
• Strong architectural thinking and ability to communicate complex solutions to large audiences.
• Ability to evaluate options and gain alignment with stakeholders.
• Java experience required.
• Experience building internet services and APIs; REST/GraphQL/gRPC familiarity.
• Knowledge of event‑driven micro‑service architecture (Vert.x, Kafka, etc.).
• CI/CD tools such as Maven, Git, Jenkins preferred.
• Familiar with NoSQL (Cassandra, Couchbase, etc.).
• Experience with big‑data (Hive, MapReduce, Spark).
• Experience with Docker/OpenShift deployments is a plus.
• Python skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, construction, and operation of new micro‑service features that manage our data hub.
• Build services to perform real‑time information processing at scale for relational and analytical queries.
• Construct offerings that generalize flow processing to source, sink, and circulate metrics.
• Enhance the performance, reliability, and scalability of data pipelines.
• Drive cross‑functional projects and collaborate with engineers across teams.
• Introduce innovative improvements using best practices and continuous learning.
• Act as a productivity multiplier by streamlining workflows for faster results.
• Mentor and guide junior team members.
• Own and drive team goals and initiatives.
