Job summary

Waystar is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer Manager in the Atlanta area to lead a high-performing engineering team focused on healthcare payments platforms.

You will own delivery, quality, and team growth while partnering with product and technology leadership to shape roadmaps and customer-centric solutions. You will drive architectural decisions, champion modern engineering practices, and ensure reliability across services and data platforms.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and delivering software with web and distributed systems.
• 5+ years leading engineering teams with direct people management.
• Deep cloud-native architectures and scalable services experience.
• Backend and API-driven systems experience (REST, GraphQL, event-driven).
• Experience with TypeScript frontend technologies.
• Hands-on with Java/Spring, Postgres, and distributed tools (Kafka, Redis).
• Experience deploying in AWS with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with IaC and deployment tooling (Helm, Argo, Ansible).
• Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Strong CI/CD and automated testing strategies; excellent communicator.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience; healthcare tech exp is a plus.

• Lead day-to-day execution and operations of an engineering team with high-quality delivery.
• Manage people leadership including performance management and career development.
• Partner with Product and Design to define priorities and roadmaps.
• Own delivery outcomes, balancing speed, quality, and sustainability.
• Coach engineers and leads to grow technically and professionally.
• Provide technical leadership on architecture and engineering practices.
• Foster accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with peer managers to align priorities and scale solutions.
• Champion modern practices: cloud-native, observability, and automated testing.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and instrumentation; focus on performance.
