Upstart, a leading AI lending marketplace, seeks a Senior Engineering Manager, Borrower Experience, to lead a fullstack engineering team across web and mobile interfaces, backend services, and APIs. You will shape technical strategy, modernize servicing architecture, and drive high‑quality borrower experiences with compliant, reliable systems.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of software engineering experience, including 4–7 years in engineering management.
• Experience leading fullstack engineering teams that build and operate customer‑facing products.
• Strong technical depth across frontend architecture, backend services, APIs, distributed systems, and system design.
• Proven ability to partner with Product and Design to deliver intuitive user experiences and measurable business outcomes.
• Experience leading teams in regulated domains such as fintech, payments, or lending.
• Experience defining and delivering complex technical strategies while balancing product delivery with architectural improvements.
• A track record of hiring, coaching, and developing high‑performing engineers.
• Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of fullstack engineers delivering borrower‑facing web and mobile experiences.
• Own technical execution across the stack, connecting interfaces with backend services and servicing systems.
• Partner with Product and Design to improve key borrower experiences and AI‑powered support.
• Define and execute a multi‑quarter technical strategy advancing borrower experience and Servicing priorities.
• Guide architectural decisions and modernization to improve reliability and development speed.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional partners to translate complex borrower needs into product experiences.
• Foster a culture of ownership, quality, experimentation, and visible delivery priorities.
