Job summary

Google is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow talented engineers across multiple teams. You will provide technical leadership for major projects, guide product strategy, and mentor engineers to improve their skills while delivering high-impact software at scale.

You will work across information retrieval, AI, security, and large-scale systems, overseeing budgets and coordinating with PMs, TPMs, and engineering leads to align roadmaps with business goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience programming in C++, Java, Python, Kotlin or Go.
• 5 years of experience in people management, including managing software engineers.
• 3 years of experience managing other managers.
• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Demonstrated experience using agile methodologies and tooling.
• Familiarity with Identity, Authentication or Security.

Responsibilities

• Inspire, manage, and grow a talented team of software engineers, fostering an open environment while actively guiding their career development.
• Provide end-to-end technical leadership for complex projects, overseeing requirements, design, implementation, testing, launch, and support.
• Collaborate closely with key stakeholders (PMs, TPMs, and Engineering Leads) to define and execute a compelling long-term goal and product strategy.
• Drive the planning and delivery of large-scale, infrastructure systems within a changing environment.
• Build and operate hyper-reliable infrastructure to deliver fast, intuitive, and always-correct access control for GCP customers.
