Job summary

Kimberly-Clark in Tennessee seeks a senior process engineering leader for Tissue manufacturing and converting. You’ll drive process optimization, apply LEAN and cost-savings programs, and build capability within salary and hourly teams while partnering with R&D and other mills.

The role reports to the Plant Manager, mentors engineers, champions safety and quality, protects proprietary technology, and communicates with cross-functional teams to deliver sustainable improvements and breakthrough

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or related discipline; 12+ years industrial experience.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop team members.
  • Strong process engineering background with papermaking/manufacturing knowledge.
  • Experience in Tissue Manufacturing operation or process development preferred.
  • Ability to influence across all levels and drive complex projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and data-driven decision making.

This role will provide technical leadership and subject-matter expertise in Tissue manufacturing and converting processes to lead overall process optimization through application of technology, implementation of best practice standards, building capability within the salary & hourly teams, and driving cost savings programs within the Mill.

Incumbent reports to the Plant Manager. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership and cost savings/optimization program development; proactively supporting business strategies;driving and recommending actions to realize goals; working collaboratively with R&D and peer Mills to support their technical needs and also identifying best practices; determining project management details; monitoring progress; implementing visions of future direction; driving innovation in the development of new product, process, or material concepts; coaching and mentoring other team members; and providing effective communication of accomplishments. Actively pursues and supports standard solutions across the site and within the Tissue Business Unit.

Plant Leadership Team, Tissue Manufacturing and Converting Asset Teams, Site Technical Team, Hourly Operations & Maintenance Team, Staff Engineering Team, and Vendors.

In this role, you will:
  • Provide leadership by example in corporate safety, quality, regulatory, product safety and sustainability.
  • Support the application of the sector Quality Management Process in all assignments and responsibilities.
  • Ensure that all elements of the corporate Human Resources Development and Diversity policy are fully supported as appropriate for the position.
  • Manage self in accordance with the K-C Ways of Working, utilize LEAN principles in the development and management of work and drive change within the organization as a role model for process improvement.
  • Protect and defend K-C proprietary technology, products, and business processes through appropriate use of patents and trade secrets.
  • Conceive, develop, validate, share and teach ideas leading to new or improved products, processes, materials, systems or basic scientific knowledge as appropriate to the business unit and peer Mills.
  • Locate existing, internal or external, or novel technology solutions for process and product needs 3 – 5 years from commercialization that enable realization of business unit strategies. Recommend strategies to protect novel technology solutions to sustain identified advantage in market.
  • Apply engineering principles, standards and procedures in the execution of projects and programs to advance process innovation.
  • Strong analytical/statistical skills and ability to mine process data from MES systems and provide clear direction as to opportunity areas for improvement.
  • Experienced working with external technical service providers and suppliers.
  • Recommend strategies to protect novel technology solutions to sustain identified advantage in market.
  • Maintain technical and scientific expertise in an area of technology and communicate impact of developments on Kimberly-Clark.
  • Coach and teach team members to increase technical understanding and effective communication of technical accomplishments and to promote growth of leadership qualities.
  • Implement the documentation and report of unit work as required by KC policy, effective communication, protection of proprietary information, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to discuss technical issues in a business environment (mill technical and operations resources, suppliers, management, etc.).
  • Communicate appropriately with all customers, conducting all communications and transactions with the utmost integrity and honesty to build an unimpeachable business reputation.
  • Support Lean Six Sigma methodology through mentoring of candidates, as well as preference to either be LSS black belt certified or actively working towards certification.

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or related discipline and 12+ years industrial experience or another equivalent combination of education and experience with a solid background of technical knowledge and experience combined with a demonstrated track record in leading and directing a technical team and projects that successfully meet business objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop team members. Frequently a recognized expert in a key part of the K-C proprietary knowledge base.
  • A strong Process Engineering / Process Technical expert level background is required for this position.
  • Subject matter expert in papermaking manufacturing technologies, products, processes and materials, direct experience with Tissue Manufacturing operation and/or process development preferred.
  • Ability to effectively influence across all levels and functions in the organization, drive decision-making and execute complex projects on demanding timelines.
  • Strong recognized problem-solving skills, including Complex Problem Solving, with the ability to conduct larger problem solving sessions on business critical issues (in this mill or others).
